of the DLR Institute of Test and Simulation for Gas Turbines
starting in the summer semester 2023. The position is a tenured W3 position. The jobholder will be appointed as a professor at TUM and granted leave with a reduced teaching load (2 hours per week) to take over the management of the DLR Institute in Augsburg (Jülich model).
The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) is not just the aeronautics and space research center of the Federal Republic of Germany. It conducts research and development activities in the fields of aeronautics, space, energy and transport, and their interdisciplinary topics security and digitalisation. Climate, mobility and technology are changing globally. DLR uses the expertise of its 55 research institutes and facilities with 10.000 employees to develop solutions to these challenges. The DLR Institute of Test and Simulation for Gas Turbines at the DLR site in Augsburg is dedicated to digitalization of aeroengines and is still in the process of being established with a current staff of around 30. Responsibilities include managing the DLR Institute of Test and Simulation for Gas Turbines, as well as supervising and promoting young scientists. The research field includes testing and simulation for gas turbines with a focus on virtual engine models as well as lifetime computational methods for materials and engine components under extreme mechanical, thermal and chemical loads. The institute develops and operates test rigs for the experimental investigation and validation of numerical methods. Teaching tasks include participation in the bachelor's and master's degree courses at TUM.
We are looking for candidates with an exceptional international scientific reputation in the above-mentioned focus areas, who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in research and teaching and is very well networked, both nationally and internationally. The future head of the institute is expected to further develop cooperation with partners from research and industry. Relevant industrial experience and very good contacts to industrial and research partners in the aeroengine and gas turbine sector are beneficial. In addition, experience in setting up and managing larger groups or institutions is required. We attach particular importance to the successful acquisition of third-party funding projects, and technology transfer. Furthermore, experience in the development of new research fields is desirable. A university degree, a doctoral degree and/or an equivalent scientific qualification are required. For teaching purposes pedagogical aptitude is mandatory. Substantial experience abroad is expected.
A prerequisite for employment at DLR is the willingness to undergo a security check in accordance with the national security check law (Sicherheitsüberprüfungsgesetz § 8 ff SÜG).
